A Reply to Dr. David Jeremiah’s End-Times Projections with Reasons for Our Decaying Nation.
The following is a Christian response to Dr. David Jeremiah’s sermon series of October 10-14, 2016 in which he highlighted concepts in his new book: People are asking… Is This The End? Signs of God’s Providence in a Disturbing New World. Christians naturally wonder what God is doing in these last days. The view in this paper will shock the average Christian.

I would like to reply to your recent sermon series aired just last week.
You like to start with stories. Please allow me to do likewise. This one comes from Tom Minnery’s book: Why You Can’t Stay Silent, A Biblical Mandate to Shape Our Culture. (Pages 160-161) Harriet Beecher Stowe, mother of six, was trying to meditate on Christ during communion at her church, but was interrupted again and again by a horrible image of a black Christian slave being beaten to death as a Christian martyr. “The Service was a blur to Harriet. When it ended, she gathered the children, took them home, and wrote out on paper what she had seen in her mind that morning in church. Harriet had written magazine articles before, but she had never attempted anything like this. What she wrote so shocked her that she put the pages away and didn’t turn to them again. Some months later, in March of 1851, her husband, Calvin, discovered them. He read them and moved to tears brought them to his wife. ‘Hattie,’ he said, ‘this is the climax of that story of slavery you promised sister Katey you would write. Begin at the beginning and work up to this, and you’ll have your book.’ Thus was born Uncle Tom’s Cabin, the novel that swept a nation to the brink of civil war.”
Today we face a much more serious form of bondage that has been growing more anti-Christian with each passing decade. We have repeatedly ignored Paul’s Holy-Spirit-inspired instructions that minds could be taken captive by Satan (2 Timothy 2:26) and have permitted this bondage on American’s children despite our nation’s Christian heritage. Our Founding Fathers give us a firm Christian foundation with the Northwest Ordinance. Article III states: “Religion, morality, and knowledge being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged.”
For over 200 years Christian influence with the Bible as the textbook was in our public schools. But in our spiritual carnality and political apathies we lost it. Why didn’t someone preach, “Like a muddied spring or a polluted well is a righteous man who gives way to the wicked,” (Proverbs 25:26 NIV)? While the famous British atheist Antony Flew changed his mind to believing in God, the secular scientific evidence is censored from children if it’s counter to evolutionary theory. Christian teachers lose their jobs if they present this material, while humanist teachers are exempt from this discrimination if they favor Darwinian evolution with only natural selection as the driving mechanism. This same discrimination now includes other professions. (Reference: Slaughter of the Dissidents, Volume 1 – The Shocking Truth About Killing The Careers Of Darwin Doubters by Dr. Jerry Bergman.) The National Center for Science Education serves as a call center and organization to bring litigation against any “public” school that attempts to offer students any hint that something scientific may be counter to evolutionary theory. With this public policy it shouldn’t be surprising that America has a growing atheistic and agnostic population with aggressive and bold anti-Christian policy dreams.
This aggressive humanistic education policy has made evangelism much more challenging. The famous Christian evangelical and apologist, Ravi Zacharias has said, “In our day, we must first establish the existence of God. Only then can we present the evidence that Jesus is God incarnate.” (Reference: Jesus among Other Gods, page 57) Unfortunately, many Christians have not studied to show themselves approved (2 Timothy 2:15) and are not ready for this. While they may have zeal in their witnessing, Solomon said that even this is not always adequate. It is not good to have zeal without knowledge… Proverbs 19:2a (NIV)
Christian teachers in our government schools have been second-class citizens for decades. Now others are second-class citizens. I met a mother once crying because her son’s school authorities did nothing to stop the homosexual harassments on her son. Today we see children crying because they were not selected in charter school lottery drawings. (The National Education Association limits the number of charter schools.) Children are forced to attend their more expensive neighborhood government schools against their wishes. These like-minded school authorities also challenge Gideon New Testament distributions on public sidewalks outside government schools. And none of this is even a prayer request in many of our sanctuaries. How much do we care for the unsaved in our communities? Do you know what Isaiah’s God would say to this educational bondage?
Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? (Isaiah 58:6 NIV)
In other words God is saying… “Do you think I’m impressed by your fasting and other religious practices? Not at all! I desire chains of injustice and yokes of bondage to be broken and I expect you to do it!!!”
Why didn’t our ministers lead the charge against any of this?! Dr. Francis Schaeffer asked a similar question once. “Where have the Bible believing Christians been in the last forty years?! …This country is close to being lost, not first of all because of a humanists’ conspiracy. I believe there are those who conspire, but that is not the reason this country is almost lost. …This country is almost lost … because the Bible believing Christians in the last forty years, who have said that they know that the final reality is this infinite personal God, who is the creator, … they said they have known it, and they have done nothing about it as the consensus has changed! Dr. Jeremiah, you have said that, “There is no political engine to stop secularism.” Really? The fact of the matter is that we have been very apathetic to a very organized, well-funded, sophisticated and carefully conceived multi-faceted-political-engine, in Schaeffer’s words “humanists’ conspiracy” that has made atheistic and agnostic humanism the universal philosophies in American education. The changes were slow at first, but are accelerating in our time.
…For the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

While majoring in the benevolent ministries, Christians and their ministers know nothing of God’s heart on the combative ministries as Isaiah proclaimed in chapter 58, verse 6 cited previously.
How can we say that we worship Christ, when our passion doesn’t even match his on this fundamental issue? It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. (Luke 17:2 NIV) Paul said it was possible to “Destroy the faith of some.” (2 Timothy 2:18 NIV) And minds [can] be led astray from [their] sincere and pure devotion to Christ (2 Corinthians 11:3). We are supporting this injustice and humanistic evangelism with our taxes and the system grows more powerful with each evangelical-apathetic year! We are even seeing children raised in Christian homes reject the faith in significant statistical percentages now.
“Now, however, these fields of study and practice have been taken over by humanists, and the great tragedy is that Christians, by their indifference, have acquiesced in this Satanic takeover.” Dr. Henry M. Morris in The Remarkable Record of Job, page 100
Can you really blame Christian teachers for leaving education or remaining silent, when the Church has not been willing to politically/legally/publically fight for their academic freedom of expression as well? America has a growing atheistic and agnostic population now with anti-Christian political sentiments. The culture now desires sexual freedom over religious freedom. Why should we be so surprised? How can a righteous God ignore our cavalier attitude of humanistic influence on children? We should reap the loss of Christian liberties. This is in agreement with Malachi’s revelation of God as well.
“I have cursed you already because you haven’t taken seriously the things that are most important to me.” (Malachi 2:2 Living Prophecies) And what was God concerned with? We learn one of God’s passionate desires a few verses later – the propagation of godliness via godly children. (Malachi 2:15)
Please note carefully. If God does not temp (James 1:14) with evil, He did not predestinate it either. God always responds to our choices.
We are not living in the “last days,” but the “last days accelerated.” We are reaping what we have sowed. (Galatians 6:7)
Dr. Francis Schaeffer also made a clear connection between spiritual renewal and social reform. “Cambridge historians would tell you, who aren’t Christians, that if it wasn’t for the Wesleyan revival and the social change that Wesley’s revival had brought, that England would have had its own form of the French revolution. It was Wesley saying people must be treated correctly, and dealing down into the social needs of the day that made it possible for England to have its bloodless revolution in contrast to France’s bloody revolution.” – Francis Schaeffer (A Christian Manifesto – audio recording from Truths That Transform)
Is it possible for the Holy Spirit to be grieved by our empty Sunday school classrooms while children are indoctrinated with anti-Christ sentiments in our “public” schools? School Choice could liberate them. What an evangelistic opportunity, when the unsaved world is crying for better choices in education!!!
You are correct Dr. Jeremiah. We need a Great Awakening and real repentance brings this. But what prompts God-pleasing repentance? Both history and scripture testify of two main factors – 1) Perilous Times or 2) Bold Preaching that clearly explains why we need to repent. Either one will serve as a prompt for people to get serious with their God. We will never repent if ministers constantly comfort us in 98 percent of their sermons or entertain us with speculations on God’s providence. In the meantime, we blame the other side… “It’s the humanists.” “It’s the abortion lobby.” “It’s the homosexual activists.” Yet we fail to see how we promoted all this via humanistic-evangelism gone unchecked.
The first to present his case seems right, till another comes forward and questions him. Proverbs 18:17 (NIV)
We fail to train our people to question not only what is taught, but also the “public” policy in how anything is taught. Yes, this is political, but so was the slavery issue once. Because English Christians got involved in their political process, England resolved the slavery question without a war. Why were the majority of our ministers silent on this issue? Why are they still politically silent now?!
It was Thomas Jefferson that said, “Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever. Commerce between master and slave is despotism. Nothing is more certainly written in the book of fate that these people are to be free.” (Yes, Jefferson owned slaves, but the laws of Virginia would not permit him to release them without significant cost to him. Reference David Barton’s works for this.) Where in this book of fate did Jefferson learn God’s view on slavery and thus tremble at the potential of God’s judgment on his country approximately 100 years before the Civil War? It could have been Exodus 21:16, 22:21, Deuteronomy 10:19, Malachi 3:5-6, Zechariah 7:8-13, Amos 1:6, or 1 Timothy 1:9-10. It’s most unfortunate many American ministers reading that same book failed to likewise tremble more from God’s Word than men’s opinion. Obeying God here would have involved ministers in a very controversial political process. It was a bitter political struggle in England. Please don’t overlook Paul’s example in the very slavery-saturated Roman Empire. He preached that “slave traders” was contrary to sound doctrine. (1 Timothy 1:10) Can one even imagine how unpopular this message was to people who trafficked in this business? How were they to be reached for Christ? The lesson to learn… Don’t ever compromise with sin with the mistaken notion it will help reach people for Christ. The apostle Paul didn’t just preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Now how do the vast majority of our American ministers compare to Paul’s example?
We have other national sins too. But our main failure is most likely believing that revival is solely up to God and His timing alone, together with whatever happens must be God’s plan anyway. Funny how God is in so much control, but when it comes to the development of our careers and businesses, we must sacrifice to make it happen. Why don’t we believe that for our personal lives and let God do all the work for us? Too many of us believe we cannot do anything to initiate revival. This belief is closely aligned to our almost universal evangelical belief that, “God’s in control,” despite 1 John 5:19 …the whole world is under the control of the evil one. In truth, God is always more than willing to have a people completely sold-out to Him. Revivals occur whenever people are desperate for God.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV)
O’ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. Jesus the Christ (Matthew 23:37 NIV)
Much more could be taught about the relationship between God’s sovereignty and man’s responsibility. I strongly recommend pastor Gregory Boyd’s book: Is God to Blame? as a very helpful aid in this study. Now let us look at how God’s people helped to initiate revival in their day.
In Nehemiah’s day the people not only saw their desperate situation, but the evidence of God’s blessings via Artaxerxes granting Nehemiah’s request to rebuild Jerusalem’s walls. That was all they initially had – a desperate situation and a testimony of God’s initial blessing. Their unity to build a wall of defense was an act of obedience to God. It wasn’t going to be easy. They also had to be ready to fight at a moment’s notice. In essence this rebuilding was an active form of repentance and a testimony of their renewed sensitivity to God’s plan despite the obstacles. This agrees with Paul’s preaching of doing works meet for repentance. (Acts 26:20) Note carefully, they had to sacrifice first to show God they were serious in their obedience toward Him. This rebuilding was just the start of their Great Awakening. The full manifestation of Spiritual Renewal occurred later and is recorded in Nehemiah 8:9 – For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.
It’s good to hear that the Dallas ministers were able to band together and push back the city council’s attempt to censor their Christian free speech. The city council had no right to demand the ministers submit their sermons to them. I hope these ministers are aware that they will be continually involved in political and legal fights until they address the root cause of this problem. They need to help secure Christian liberties for everyone starting with School Choice.
The National Education Association, the most powerful special interest group on the planet with saturated “Progressive” ideology, has full control of the Democratic Party now. (It’s most unfortunate, more Christians were not salt (Matthew 5:13) and light (Matthew 5:14-15) in the primaries and continually active in this party’s platform development years ago.) Reagan’s past Education Secretary, William Bennett has said the NEA bankrolls the Democratic Party. It’s many of these same people with “Progressive” political philosophies that have opposed Christian teachers, restricted Christian student tract distributions, have hassled campus Bible clubs, and now want to shut down Christian businesses and schools with expensive litigation as well as control what ministers preach. Their own literature describes Christian organizations such as Focus on the Family and others as extremist. (I’ve personally seen their literature with these extremist-claims as early as 1993.) Yet the candidate they promote for U.S. president has enough evidence against her to incarcerate the average American citizen. (Reference: LevinTV.com and see October 13, 2016 show)
Today we are at a very critical moment in American history. Never has corruption at high levels in government gone unchecked for so long – connections between this administration and the IRS in the targeting of Conservatives, as well as connections between the FBI and the Democratic presidential nominee and willful destruction of criminal evidence (computer hard drives among other items), besides the blatant security violations by our former Secretary of State. (I’ve worked in secure environments. There is no way anyone can forward secure emails to non-secure addresses without inputting their secret pin or deactivating to non-secure status via an obviously unique and bright software button. Hillary’s actions were not simple mistakes as she has claimed. She knew exactly what she was doing and did it repeatedly.)
We all understand that churches can lose their tax-exemption status if they favor or oppose any specific candidate. Alan Sear’s Alliance Defense Fund may still be looking for a case to test this for churches.
If the “Progressives” win this next election, Christians can expect very challenging times ahead. Can anyone even imagine the damage that can be done to Christian liberties via a lawless leader with “Progressive” Supreme Court appointees that will bend the Constitution into anything other than the original intent? Obviously the Republican candidate is a “mixed bag of issues and is sadly questionable morally.” But before women write him off they need to carefully consider that it is the “Progressive” policy that is allowing men into women’s bathrooms. Does anyone doubt that little girls will be taken advantage of? Now who really is for women? Trump is on public record saying that ministers should have the right to say anything, even politically, without jeopardizing their tax-exemption status. The “Progressives” want to take tax-exemption away, but that will come later. Even if Trump wins, we still need to pray like we have never prayed before!
Mike Huckabee, speaking at the Values Voter Summit in 2014 said that there are about 80 million evangelicals in the United States. Only half of them are registered to vote, and of this group only half of these (20 million) did vote. Before Christians can be salt and light in this process, someone needs to quickly get their attention and correct their mistaken notions that, “God’s in absolute total control of everything and therefore we don’t need to do anything since God has already planned everything out.”
Why doesn’t someone teach us to pray, “Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven?” (Matthew 6:10) God’s will on earth is not an automatic default. Why doesn’t somebody preach that God gives us a choice to make Him Lord of both our private and public lives? And then depending on our individual and collective choices, God will respond.
…And if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned. And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it. Jeremiah 18:8-10 (NIV)
True repentance includes a real desire to do the Father’s will. Jesus went about destroying the works of the devil. (1 John 3:8) The inflictions people suffered were not God’s original plan or desire. Shouldn’t Christ’s followers do likewise and destroy the works of the devil? The English Christians showed that destroying the works of the devil, in holding people bondage to slavery, involved a very challenging and bitter political process. Why didn’t the American ministers learned from their example?
When President Abraham Lincoln met Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, for the first time, he said; “So this is the little lady who made this big war?” (Ref. Why You Can’t Stay Silent, page 167)
No, Mr. President, God permitted it because his disobedient children grieved him. Their ministers were cowards and whole congregations were rebellious, ignorant fools to ignore God’s Word and valued their personal peace and affluence over God’s Word. Consequently, their personal peace and affluence were taken away from them.
My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children. Hosea 4:6 (NIV)
And for many people of the Civil War era and similarly with Israel, that meant death to them, their children, and loss of prosperity.
Dr. Francis Schaeffer said that Christians have mistakenly seen the evils of our society (abortion, euthanasia, pornography, breakdown of the family, drugs, gang violence, etc.) as isolated bits and pieces and have failed to see these social ills are in reality all connected as a natural outcome of a humanistic worldview. Schaeffer went on to explain our future: “We face a worldview which would have never given us our freedoms, forced upon us by the courts and the government by men holding this other worldview. … This other view is totally intolerant. I do not think we are going to get another opportunity if we do not take it now in this country. If the Christians specifically and others who love liberty, but specifically the Christians, do not do something about it now, I don’t believe your grandchildren are going to get a chance.” (A Christian Manifesto, Francis Schaeffer – audio recording from Truths That Transform)
That was Schaeffer’s warning forty years ago. As you can see he was complaining of the pathetic Christian response forty years before that. Today we are at a very crucial point of submitting control of the U.S. Supreme Court to, in Schaeffer’s words, people that would have never given us our freedoms in the first place, the “Progressives.” If they win Christians can expect costly litigation against their businesses and churches. On October 19, 2012 an article appeared in The Truth, titled: Authorities All Over American Are Cracking Down On Home Bible Studies And Other Expressions Of Christian Faith, by Michael Snyder. Note: These are small Bible studies, not anything that could be construed as causing traffic problems or noise issues. A new Phoenix city ordinance would have criminalize faith-based objections to same-sex marriage, if it had not been for the Alliance Defense Fund’s action of filing a pre-enforcement lawsuit against the Phoenix ordinance. And Biola president Barry Corey, in speaking against California’s Senate Bill 1146 said, “Never has there been proposed law in the history of our nation that would be as restrictive on the religious rights of faith-based colleges and universities.” In a legal memorandum from The Heritage Foundation titled: Religious Liberty and Expression Under Attach, author Jay Alan Sekulow said, “All across America, religious institutions and individuals are being subjected to increasing restrictions on their free exercise of religion and freedom of speech.” You can be sure that a “Progressive” Supreme Court will rule against School Choice and Homeschools because the NEA bankrolls the Democratic Party and wants total control over all education.
Last day prophecy books are very popular among evangelicals. Everyone wants to know what God is up to in these last days. Few realize that we are reaping what we have sowed. As long as ministers fail to clearly explain this and Christians fail to understand that God responds to our choices, there will be no repentance. And with no repentance, there will be no Spiritual Renewal or Great Awakening. Could repentance even be possible while ignoring the Satanic humanistic bondage of children? Do we dare dream of a Great Spiritual Awakening with no public policy change to our educational system? I release my copyrights to any of this. Please challenge us to repent and encourage others to preach repentance too!!! Without this perilous times will come.
God spoke through the prophet Hosea and said, “They set up kings without my consent; they choose princes without my approval.” (Hosea 8:4 NIV)
In the mean time too many evangelicals are confused as to whom to vote for because their shepherds are silent. While Trump is bad, Hillary is worse because she will advance the “Progressive” agenda. Had many more Christians been salt and light in both major parties, everyone would have had better choices today. Maybe even a third party candidate would have been a serious contender at this moment. The time for voting convictions is months before the primaries. When winners are beginning to be determined, we must be wise as serpents and harmless as doves (Matthew 10:16) and not waste any vote. Until a third party candidate has real statistical chances of winning, believers should be wise with their vote. Christians should be asking themselves at lease one of two questions after the primaries. 1) Which significantly viable candidate is the least likely to hinder the advancement of Christ’s kingdom or 2) Which one is much more likely to promote it?
Our shepherds must give a clear voice here, because the sheep will not follow a stranger. (John 10:4 & 5) What could be God’s response because of our spiritual leaders’ failure now? It’s the same for anyone that isn’t serious with all of God’s Word.
