Ladies In White

Havana in Black and White

Dissident Berta Soler takes a big risk by telling the truth about racism and repression in Cuba

MARY ANASTASIA O’GRADY, WSJ.COM, MAY 5, 2013

After an 11-hour police interrogation in 2011, Berta Soler, one of the founding members of the Cuban dissident group known as the Ladies in White, was given an ultimatum.
During an interview at the Journal’s offices last week, Ms. Soler told me that the ministry of interior official who escorted her home said “Laura [Pollán, another founding member of the group] and I had to leave the country—because without us there would be no Ladies in White.” Ms. Soler said she responded by telling the official that “the ones who have to leave are the Castros.”

imageCubans have been put against a wall and shot for less, but Ms. Soler’s courage could not have been news to the regime. For seven years, beginning in 2003, the Ladies, dressed in white from head to toe, had attended Sunday Mass together at St. Rita’s Church in Havana and then silently filed through the streets to demand that their political-prisoner relatives be freed.

The group was regularly set upon by Castro agents and clawed, punched and kicked. But they never retreated, even when the regime upped the ante by dragging them onto buses, driving them far from home and dropping them off to find their own way back.

By 2010, cellphone photos of the brutality embarrassed the dictatorship enough internationally that it began deporting the prisoners with their immediate families to Spain. It was classic Castro: For more than a half-century, strong dissident leaders who couldn’t be broken have been killed or exiled. Continue reading

The Dark Side of Same-sex ‘Marriage’: By David A. Noebel

“In a decade, gay marriage has gone from joke to dogma.” Christopher Caldwell, “Gay Rites,” Claremont Review of Books, Winter 2012/13, p. 26Dark_Side_Ring_of_Light_-_Titan_-_PIA12511

“The American Civil Liberties Union was not interested in defending gay rights at all in 1957, when it called homosexuals ‘socially heretical or deviant.”  Caldwell, p. 23

“26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as ‘normal, natural, healthy.’ 40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.’ “W. Cleon Skousen, “Current Communist Goals,” The Naked Communist, p. 261, 262

On March 21, 2013 there was a fundraiser held in New York for the National Lesbian & Gay Journalist Association (NLGJA).  It was sponsored by all the major news organizations and then some including: Fox News, CBS News, NBCUniversal, CNN, jetBlue, Bloomberg, The New York Times, General Motors, and Eli Lilly and Company.

Natalie Morales of NBC’s ‘Today Show’ was the host for the occasion.

Jenna Wolfe, of NBC’s ‘Today Show,’ used the occasion to announce that she and her lesbian partner, Stephanie Gosk, an NBC News correspondent, were getting married, and that she was already pregnant.

The homosexual movement is presently being financed by the Gay Mafia which includes such heavy hitters as Timothy Gill of Denver and, of course, George Soros.  Time magazine’s “The Gay Mogul Changing U.S. Politics” was referring to Tim Gill. While Gill is financing “OutGiving” Soros is funding “New Beginning Initiative.”

Most of the sexual antics performed by homosexual upon each other are too disgusting to describe in a family-oriented publication, but on March 31, 2013 we are informed that “the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the kabuki-inspired cross-dressing nuns-of-fun, hosted their 34th Easter Sunday at Dolores Park.”  They sponsored a “Hunky Jesus” contest and Time magazine added to the desensitizing agenda by featuring a cover story showing two white homosexual couples kissing.  Continue reading

Betraying George Washington

“In the latest outrage, a virulently anti-Christian advocacy group—with the Orwellian name of the Religious Freedom Foundation—met privately with Pentagon officials to demand that current regulations be expanded to make the proselytizing of religious beliefs a court-martial offense for anyone in uniform.”

“…the new prohibitions would target uniformed people holding extreme beliefs—such as maintaining a personal faith in Jesus Christ.

“Atheists may be on the march, but the nation’s defenders can be assured there will still be none in foxholes.”  Boykin and Allard

BOYKIN AND ALLARD: Everywhere but in foxholes

God is a bad word in the ‘improved’ military

President Obama’s supporters were outraged when the actor portraying Satan during the recent TV miniseries “The Bible” had more than a passing b1-boykin_s640x647resemblance to Mr. Obama. Now, however, those same supporters seem determined to remove all doubt about the anti-religious bigotry underlying this administration’s every official pronouncement.

In the latest outrage, a virulently anti-Christian advocacy group — with the Orwellian name of the Religious Freedom Foundation — met privately with Pentagon officials to demand that current regulations be expanded to make the proselytizing of religious beliefs a court-martial offense for anyone in uniform.

As reported by Todd Starnes in a Fox News commentary, the group’s leader said, “Until the [armed services punish] a member of the military for unconstitutional religious proselytizing and oppression, we will never have the ability to stop this horrible, horrendous, dehumanizing behavior.” The potential stakes included that worst of all possible worlds: “a tidal wave of fundamentalists.”

Not bomb-toting Islamic fundamentalists, of course. Instead, the new prohibitions would target uniformed people holding extreme beliefs — such as maintaining a personal faith in Jesus Christ. Even worse — adhering to Christian principles, one of which is the Great Commission, “to preach the gospel to every creature.” In today’s politically correct and profoundly secular American society, such religious “extremism” obviously has no place, particularly with anyone in uniform. Who knows — maybe including chaplains.

It’s a good thing that George Washington is dead and military history effectively banished from our campuses. Otherwise, we might remember the general order Washington issued upon taking command of the embattled Continental Army — and in Boston, no less. The general “requires and expects of all officers and soldiers a punctual attendance at Divine services, to implore the blessing of Heaven upon the means used for our safety and defense.” In the same way, any assistant professor of government hoping to achieve tenure will likely skim over certain sections of the first president’s Farewell Address, which reads: “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and Morality are indispensable supports.” Continue reading
